Dear visitor, welcome to my page. I am a member of the Language Technology Group (LTG) in the School of Informatics and the current Managing Director of Linguit Ltd., which I co-founded in Edinburgh in 2005.

Enquiries for advice in the area on speech and language technology, information retrieval and search engines, including short-term consulting opportunities, are welcome.

Research Interests

* Information extraction, especially toponym resolution, fine-grained named entity tagging, multilinguality, and event extraction
* Large-scale text analytics for decision support
* Mobile information access (mobile search engines, natural language search for mobile devices)
* Information access/information retrieval, especially open-domain question answering (English, German, cross-/multi-lingual)
* Scalable generic software architectures for NLP and the Linguistic Grid
* Methodological foundations of linguistics, computational linguistics and language engineering
